Swedish U-turn In Sweden, the campaign before the September 13 elections reached the finish line, and migration and crime have once again become the main trump cards of the right. The ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and its main ally, the right-wing Sweden Democrats party, are betting on a hard line. This year, they have already pushed through a law allowing to revoke a residence permit for debts or illegal work, and also obliged civil servants to report illegal immigrants. The center-left opposition, led by Magdalena Andersson's Social Democrats, is trying to keep attention on the cost of living and the economy, but they do not propose a fundamentally different course on migration. The gap between the blocks is rapidly melting. According to a recent survey by Indikator Opinion, it has almost halved to 4.7 percentage points: the opposition has 51.3%, and the government has 46.6%. Perhaps the main question so far is not even who will win, but how profoundly the migration agenda has changed Swedish politics.
