The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) has proposed an amendment to postpone the debate on a bill granting citizenship to Sahrawis born during the Spanish administration. Originally set for discussion on Thursday, September 10, in the Congress of Deputies, the governing party seeks to delay proceedings amidst escalating tensions related to the Ceuta crisis.
According to parliamentary sources from Sumar, the bill's sponsor, Spanish media indicate that PSOE «could try to postpone the initiative's final presentation in plenary as long as possible», aiming to «manage the parliamentary timetable» rather than reacting to the ongoing media and diplomatic pressures.
Should the Congress approve the bill in plenary, it will proceed to the Senate for further consideration.
