A total of 230 new social homes are to be built in Cherrywood, with the development expected to be completed by mid-2029.
The development at Bishop Gardens will comprise 103 two-bedroom apartments, 81 one-bedroom homes, 34 studios and 12 three-bedroom apartments.
Located within the Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone (SDZ), the scheme will also provide resident parking, bicycle parking and a mix of private and public open spaces, alongside infrastructure designed to support walking and cycling.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has signed contracts with Evara for the delivery of the homes on council-owned land.
Speaking at the contract signing, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Cllr Barry Saul, said the development marked a 'major milestone' for Cherrywood and the wider county.
'Every new home delivered represents a positive change in someone's life,' he said.
'These 230 homes will provide secure, high-quality accommodation in a well-connected community with excellent amenities and transport links. It is encouraging to see another significant housing project moving forward as we continue to address local housing need.'

Council chief executive Frank Curran said the development would transform council-owned land into a residential scheme in one of Ireland's fastest-growing urban areas.
'This project will make a meaningful contribution to meeting housing demand while supporting the long-term vision for Cherrywood as a sustainable and thriving community,' he added.
The development received funding from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage through the Social Housing Capital Investment Programme.
Minister for Housing James Browne said the project would provide energy-efficient homes offering a range of housing options to meet the needs of the local community.
'While this is but one of the first steps on this particular project, it shows once again that we have a robust pipeline in place to deliver new homes at the scale needed to meet the ambitious targets set out in our Housing Action Plan,' he said.
