West Moberly First Nations members invited to participate in Coastal Gas Link project

MOBERLY LAKE, B.C. — West Moberly First Nations (WMFN) members who worked on the Coastal Gas Link (CGL) project have an opportunity to share their experiences. According to a Facebook post in late August, WMFN seeks members who worked on the project, a 670-kilometre pipeline from northeast B.C. to the LNG Canada terminal in Kitimat, for an unnamed film produced by the First Nations Natural Gas Alliance (FNNGA). 'We know many [WMFN] worked on the CGL project,' according to an announcement on a WMFN based Facebook page on Aug. 18. 'We are looking for members who may be featured in the video to share their experience.' The pipeline's website said the infrastructure is owned by Coastal GasLink Pipeline Limited Partnership, of which Calgary-based TC Energy has 35 per cent interest. The CGL is anticipated to deliver 2.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas through the pipeline to the terminal, where it is then liquified for international export. First formed in 2014, the FNNGA is a collective 'participating in and supportive of sustainable liquified natural gas development.' When contacted by Energeticcity.ca, the FNNGA said the project is in its 'beginning stages,' with no timeline for release yet. In a statement by the organization, chief executive officer Karen Ogen said the organization 'empowers and amplifies' Indigenous people and First Nations governments who are engaged and have benefited from a strong natural gas and LNG industry to 'support their cultural and economic well-being.' 'We are not focused on any one project, but rather on the shared elements of success that Nations have experienced through partnership,' said Ogen in the statement. Filming of the WMFN portion is expected on Sept. 16 and is open only to WMFN members.
