Whatcom Humane Society releases young skunks into wild

WHATCOM COUNTY — Last Wednesday, Sept. 4, the Whatcom Humane Society released a stench of young skunks into the wild, after raising them in their rehabilitation center. According to the Whatcom Humane Society on Facebook, this specific group of skunks have been with the humane society since spring. They also note that, typically, skunks are raised by their mother and learn how to survive during the summer. In this case, though, these skunks showed up as orphans. The Whatcom Humane Society's team took the orphan skunks in and took care of them before releasing them last week. 'Skunks eat many types of insects, including many considered pests, and they disperse seeds to support diversity in the ecosystem,' the Whatcom Humane Society wrote on Facebook. 'We love them and it was an honor to care for them and release them in a rural forest where they can live their best wildlife!'
