The Sobieski Skis traveled to Jordan Sept. 5 to face the Jordan Brewers in the quarterfinals of the Amateur League Class B State Baseball Tournament. The Brewers topped the Skis 3-1 to advance to the state semifinals.
The Skis started the scoring right away in the top of the first inning. Alex Thoma singled to left field, allowing Collin Eckman to score and giving the Skis a 1-0 lead.
Jordan responded in the bottom of the first, scoring one run to tie the game at 1-1. The Brewers then took the lead in the second inning, scoring one run to take a 2-1 lead.
The score stayed 2-1 until the eighth inning when the Brewers scored another run on an error by the Skis, extending their lead to 3-1. The Skis were unable to generate any more offense as the Brewers took the game 3-1.
Dusty Parker started on the mound for the Skis, pitching two innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out one batter. Jack Schafer pitched the final six innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out eight batters.
Schafer was a draftee from the Fort Ripley Rebels and was selected to the Class B state all-tournament team.
The Skis end their season with a 14-8 record after reaching the Elite Eight of the Class B state tournament.
