While praising his SEC honor, the University of Tennessee football program said his touchdowns tied a freshman record held by Casey Clausen in 2000 and Tyler Bray in 2010. Brandon's top target against the Paladins was wide receiver Mike Matthews, amassing 132 receiving yards on just four catches – the fourth 100-yard game of the junior's career. Just after halftime, the Volunteers quarterback connected again with Matthews on back-to-back scoring drives for 55- and 57-yard touchdown passes to the wide receiver.
