Smylie Kaufman believes that Scottie Scheffler and Wyndham Clark are among the four American players who should play in all five sessions at the Presidents Cup this month. Team USA are looking to continue their incredible record in the event when they get to Medinah. Brandt Snedeker's side are looking to avoid becoming only the second American team to lose to the Internationals. Who will be each team's leading points scorer at the Solheim Cup? Will there be any big surprises in the Netherlands? On paper, Team USA look to have far too much strength for their opponents. Just two members of Geoff Ogilvy's squad have positive records in the event across their careers. It is a good opportunity for Team USA to prepare for next year's Ryder Cup, so Snedeker will not be taking the Internationals lightly. While there is scope to take some risks, he will want to see his team make a real statement in Illinois. Smylie Kaufman thinks four American players should play all five sessions at the Presidents Cup Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, and Cameron Young have all won multiple times on the PGA Tour this season. And speaking on The Smylie Show, Smylie Kaufman backed the trio, as well as Sam Burns, to play prominent roles for Team USA at Medinah. Photo by'I used to think that Wyndham is just a guy that you would want to play in best ball, but I've watched him play too much golf. He's an alternate shot player, too. He's a guy that you play in every format. He's so good man, he's so good at golf,' he said. 'To me, Sam Burns, Scottie, and Wyndham Clark, those are your horses, and Cam Young. If Cam Young's putting is back, those are your four guys that you play in every single session. And I think anybody else feels like they could sit out, just based off the year.' MORE WYNDHAM CLARK STORIES The Scottie Scheffler problem Brandt Snedeker needs to solve at Medinah There is good reason to ask Scheffler to play all five sessions at the Presidents Cup. Despite making a superb debut for Team USA at the 2021 Ryder Cup, the world number one has never quite managed to find his best form in team competition. Would you have picked Ryan Gerard instead of Justin Thomas if you were Brandt Snedeker? Justin Thomas' form over the past 18 months has been questionable… He has played alongside a number of partners, including Burns and Russell Henley. It would not be a surprise to see Snedeker pair him with at least one of the two men at Medinah. But Team Europe will fancy their chances next year if Scheffler is paired with Burns or Henley. It would be much more concerning to Luke Donald and his team if Snedeker successfully pairs the 30-year-old with a new face. Certainly, it would create a buzz if Scheffler played with Jackson Koivun or Chris Gotterup. It would definitely be a risk to put Scheffler back with someone who he has mixed results with.
