Atresmedia and the producer of 'Pasapalabra' prepare a lawsuit against Mediaset after the premiere of 'Rueda la letra'

The television war around 'Pasapalabra' threatens to return to the courts. As 'ElConstitucional.es' has learned, the legal teams of Atresmedia and ITV Studios, owner of the original format, are working on a possible lawsuit against Mediaset for the similarities they perceive between 'Rueda la letra' and the contest presented by Roberto Leal on Antena 3. The move comes just hours after the premiere of Carlos Sobera's new program on Telecinco. Atresmedia and ITV Studios believe that the proposal goes far beyond incorporating a final test based on the alphabet and that it reproduces part of the structure, dynamics, and staging of 'Pasapalabra'. Mediaset holds the rights to 'El Rosco', acquired from the Dutch company MC&F and now rebranded as 'La Rueda'. The possible conflict would be in everything surrounding that test, as ITV Studios retains the rights to 'Pasapalabra' and understands that the rival network cannot wrap its final with an excessively similar contest. Lawyers are analyzing elements such as the presence of two contestants accompanied by celebrities, the four tests designed to accumulate seconds, the musical game with buzzers, the use of a split screen, and a production very close to that of the Antena 3 show. The set and its color scheme have also fueled comparisons since the first broadcast. 'Rueda la letra', produced by Bulldog TV, premiered this Monday with a 9.1% screen share and 624,000 viewers. The figure slightly exceeded Telecinco's daily average, which stood at 8.4%, although it fell short of 'Pasapalabra's' performance, which reached 17.8% on the same afternoon. The contest also featured two faces very well known to fans of the rival format. Fran González and Lilit Manukyan, former participants of 'Pasapalabra', were the first contestants. Lilit herself even said "pasapalabra" by mistake during the recording, a moment that Telecinco left out of the broadcast. The dispute has a history in both directions. Mediaset announced in July that it would take action against Atresmedia for 'AlaZ', the new final test of 'Pasapalabra', considering that it retained too many similarities with 'El Rosco'. That lawsuit has not yet materialized, while the lawyers of Atresmedia and ITV Studios are now studying their response after the arrival of 'Rueda la letra'.
