UP, Bihar set to expand bus services

Lucknow: In a move to improve interstate connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar , the two states have agreed to expand their bus service network and explore new routes, particularly benefiting passengers in border districts. A meeting between Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh and Bihar Transport Minister Damodar Rawat was held in Lucknow on Monday to discuss the expansion. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) and Bihar State Road Transport Corporation also participated. The meeting reviewed existing bus services on 25 routes covered under the interstate transport agreement between the two states, which came into effect in 2016 and was extended in May 2026. The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation proposed introducing services connecting several Bihar districts with different districts of Uttar Pradesh. Officials noted that several new highways and road corridors have been developed between the states in recent years and said these would be assessed for inclusion in the interstate bus network. The two sides agreed to hold a second round of discussions soon, when Bihar will submit detailed route proposals and maps. Officials from both transport departments and road transport corporations will then examine the proposed routes.
