Food Vendor Sentenced to Seven Years for Human Trafficking and Prostitution

The Accra Circuit Court Four has sentenced Gift Chinyere Aminu to seven years in prison. She is a food vendor and was convicted for human trafficking and prostitution. Aminu, 36, denied the charges during her trial. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Issah Achiburi presented the case details. The complainant, ThankGod Iheme, is a Nigerian living in Accra. Aminu also resides in Accra at Kwame Nkrumah Circle Railways with two other women, Jennifer and Blessing, who are currently at large. On October 31, 2025, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit received a case docket from Kaneshie Police Station. ASP Achiburi stated that Aminu and two victims were brought before the Unit. The victims are Jennifer Izi, known as Lovina, and Aissah Mohammed, known as Gold. Izi informed Iheme that a Nigerian woman had brought them from Togo to Ghana. She claimed they were forced into prostitution and beaten if they refused. After receiving the report, police re-arrested Aminu. During interrogation, she admitted knowing both victims. Aminu told police she lived in Rafineri, Togo, where she engaged in prostitution. She said she received Izi and Mohammed from Jennifer and Blessing to manage them for prostitution. ASP Achiburi noted that Aminu took the victims to a shrine to swear an oath against running away with her money. Due to police pressure in Togo, Aminu relocated to Ghana with the victims. In Ghana, Izi discovered she was pregnant and informed Aminu. Aminu then provided her with medicine for an abortion. Investigations revealed that Aminu collected 300,000 Naira from Mohammed and 250,000 Naira from Izi. Following these findings, authorities charged her with multiple offenses. The court ordered her to compensate her victims as well. Madam Lawrencia Awura Abena Darkowaa Gyamfi presided over the case.
