Woman, 65, indicted in killing of veteran she allegedly met in Birmingham park for sex

A 65-year-old woman has been indicted in the shooting death of a man authorities say she met in a Birmingham park to have sex. A Jefferson County grand jury issued the murder indictment against Bonita Brown on Aug. 28, according to recently released court records. Brown is charged in the Nov. 23, 2025, shooting death of Thomas Williams, a 64-year-old U.S. Army veteran who was found dead outside of his car on a dead-end Birmingham street. A passerby found Williams about 2 p.m. that Sunday in the 1700 block of Maple Avenue. West Precinct officers dispatched to a report of a person down arrived to find the victim unresponsive in the road. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene. Investigators later learned the shooting happened after 12:30 p.m. At a previous hearing, Birmingham homicide Det. James Vildibill testified that Williams was found lying on the ground, dead from what appeared to be several gunshot wounds. Williams' phone was not on the scene, nor were there any shell casings located. Once investigators identified the victim, they obtained phone records and smart watch data that showed just prior to the shooting, Williams had been in contact with a phone name later determined to belong to Brown, records show. Flock cameras, which read and record license plates, showed that car thought to be driven by Brown were seen in the area just prior to, and after, the shooting. Once Brown was taken into custody and read her Miranda rights, Vildibill testified, Brown confirmed her phone number, her vehicle and that she was dating Williams. 'Defendant confessed to meeting the victim in a park to have sex and that when he broke up with her immediately after, she 'snapped' and shot him three times,' the judge wrote in her bond order. Brown then admitted to dumping the victim's phone near the airport. Afterwards, she went to the grocery store and then home. 'She further cooperated with police in telling them where to the find the firearm she used and the shell casings,' the judge wrote, 'which were all recovered from her home.' Brown was released from jail on $100,000 bond in 2025 and ordered her to attend Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime bi-weekly.
