PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — The Labor Day weekend signals the beginning of four months of holidays, celebrations, and things to do, all leading up to the New Year!
News 5' Drexel Gilbert says it can be a lot of fun, but also a lot of responsibility. She's thinking this year might be a time to 'slow the season.'
Hey, y'all! Hope you are having a great Labor Day weekend! Things are about to get busy! For the next four months, the last four months of the year, we jump from Labor Day to football season to fall festivals, to pumpkin patches, to Halloween, to Thanksgiving, to Christmas… I love this time of year, but there are so many years when I get to New Year's Eve and it's just a big blur! I bet that's happened to you, too!
I got to thinking that maybe this year we could change things up and slow things down! I think we should take pen to paper, maybe this next week but certainly in September, and write out what we want our holiday season- our last four months of 2026- to look like.
I don't know what you would write down, but I know that I am certainly going to pare things down. It's occurred to me that every year we don't have to be the ones who bake all the cookies, go to all the plays, go to all the Christmas concerts, buy all the gifts, wrap all the gifts, deliver all the gifts. NO! Sometimes, we just put so much on ourselves that we miss the joy of the season.
I hope that you join me this year in paring things down so that we can look back on the last four months of 2026 and not see a blur but see beautiful snapshots in our minds. Beautiful memories that bring meaning and joy and intention and purpose to our lives and hopefully to the lives of those around us.
And, that's your minute with Drexel.Submit Correction Δ
