The Taliban administration has announced that reconstruction work on the power section of the Mangi dam in Kunar province has begun at a cost of nearly 83 million Afghanis, and that once completed, it will provide electricity to about 4,000 families. The Economic Affairs Office of the Taliban prime minister's office said the dam will generate 2.1 megawatts of electricity after reconstruction. According to the office, the project will be completed within 14 months. The Taliban administration has not released further details on how the funding will be provided, which company will carry out the project, or the exact areas that will be covered by the electricity supply. The Mangi dam is located in Kunar province, where a number of areas face a shortage of basic infrastructure services, including electricity, and hydropower projects there are considered among the limited sources of energy supply.
