Most people assume yellowed pillows are simply worn out and ready for replacement. Regular washing doesn't seem to help, and those stubborn stains only deepen over time. But the problem isn't the pillow itself. It's the temperature of the water you're using. White pillows inevitably develop yellow stains, particularly from sweat and moisture that accumulate over years of use. With 20 years of experience in cleaning, she posted a video on August 1, 2026, demonstrating her approach to eliminating yellow stains from white pillows. According to Mrad, the pillows can become completely white again using a straightforward process that relies on two familiar cleaning products: sodium percarbonate and washing soda crystals. Rather than accepting the discoloration as permanent, this method tackles the stains at their source. The key ingredients work together, but only when activated properly. That activation is everything. Why temperature makes the difference The process begins in a basin filled with very hot water. For every liter of water, Mrad adds 1 tablespoon of sodium percarbonate along with approximately 2 tablespoons of washing soda crystals. She submerges the pillow in this mixture, then adds another dose of sodium percarbonate before topping off with more very hot water. The temperature isn't arbitrary. Mrad explains that very hot water is what releases the active components in sodium percarbonate. Without that heat, the product simply doesn't work. This is where most attempts fail: lukewarm or cool water leaves the percarbonate inactive, rendering the entire soak pointless. Once the pillows are fully immersed, the mixture needs at least one hour to work. For particularly stubborn stains, the soaking time can be extended. The longer soak allows the activated ingredients to penetrate deeper into the fabric fibers where yellowing has set in. The tricky part no one mentions After soaking, the pillows must be removed from the basin and wrung out thoroughly to eliminate as much water as possible before machine washing. Mrad acknowledges this as the most complex phase of the process: draining the water and wringing out saturated pillows requires real effort. She notes that she completed this step with help from another person, which makes the task considerably easier. Once excess water is removed, the pillows go into the washing machine on a cycle appropriate for the pillow type. To boost the stain-removing action, Mrad adds another 1 tablespoon of sodium percarbonate directly into the machine. This reinforces what the soak already started. The drying stage matters just as much as the washing. Mrad's approach involves laying the pillows flat outdoors for at least 24 hours. This method works particularly well during summer when temperatures and weather conditions speed up the drying process. After this extended drying period, the results speak for themselves: the pillows regain a much whiter, fresher appearance. It's the heat that does the work The entire technique hinges on understanding one simple principle: sodium percarbonate needs heat to activate. Skip the hot water, and you're just soaking pillows in inert powder. Use it correctly, and the yellowing lifts out completely, returning the fabric to its original brightness. If your white pillows look dingy and stained, the fix isn't replacement. It's reactivating the cleaning power already available in two common household products, applied at the right temperature. That one detail makes all the difference.
