米軍基地の整理・縮小と日米地位協定の見直しの賛否を問う１９９６年の県民投票から８日で３０年となる。全国初の県民投票は賛成が約９割を占めたが、国土面積０・６％の沖縄には現在でも在日米軍専用施設の約７０・３％が集中し、地位協定改定も実現していない。
