Athlete of the Week Nominees 9/7

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Here's a look at this week's KCRG-TV9 Athlete of the Week baseball nominees. They include Quinn Flanagan, Jackson Green and Eric Strunk. Dubuque Wahlert's Quinn Flanagan was named first team all-state last summer as a sophomore, helping the Golden Eagles get all the way to the state championship game. Flanagan had a complete game against North Polk, with nine strikeouts, in the state quarterfinals. Cascade's Jackson Green led the Cougars with a 0.75 ERA as a junior, helping his team get to the state finals. He pitched a complete game against Dyersville Beckman in the class 2A quarterfinals, as was named first team all-state. Iowa City Liberty's Eric Strunk helped the Lightning get to the state tournament after a 15-0 victory in the substate finals over previous No. 2 Cedar Rapids Prairie. He reached base three times in a close loss to No. 1 seed Sioux City East in the state tournament. Strunk was named third team all-state. Voting begins at 6:00 PM on Monday and ends at 6:00 PM on Tuesday. The winner will be announced in our sportscast on Wednesday at 10:00 PM.
