Feeling like we've been carried on a sweet breeze into September, often the busiest, most chaotic, and still the most energized and inspiring month of the year. I don't know if it's the back-to-school energy that's been defaulted into the system but I feel quite ready to rock. I played a few songs in the car with my parents this weekend and my mom remarked how it was 'great driving music,' which is I think mom-speak for easy, warm tunes. It's a lot more bluegrassy than his older stuff. Some autotune remains, to be sure, but overall it's grounded in guitar melody. Al's sweet voice features on one of the songs. A man who has been around this industry long enough to know its harrowed ins and outs, you can find him next to similarly infamous Aus voices such as Kirin J Callinan and Keli Holiday. I'm particularly fond of his early electronic band Seekae but his solo music is well storied and celebrated at this point. This one is sold out but he's looping back to Baby's next week, 9/16.
