Cybercriminals routed transactions worth a staggering Rs 5 crore through a bank account after allegedly duping the account holder on the pretext of helping him secure a loan. An FIR has been registered by the cyber crime department in connection with the case, which police have classified as a mule account fraud.
The account belongs to Amul, a resident of Naganur in Nippani taluk, who maintains a bank account in Kagal. According to the complaint, he received a WhatsApp call from fraudsters who offered to help him obtain a bank loan. During the process, they allegedly gained access to his account details and used them to carry out fraudulent transactions. Investigators found that transactions totalling Rs 5 crore were routed through the account between Nov 29 and Dec 5, 2025. Preliminary findings revealed that the accused linked their own mobile numbers to Amul's bank account, enabling them to conduct the transactions without his knowledge. Officials from the cyber crime department are investigating the case to trace the accused.
