Gosh, has it been 20 years? In 2006, Julia Roberts made her Broadway debut in 'Three Days of Rain' with Paul Rudd and Bradley Cooper. The Oscar winner did not return to the stage after that go round, but she's starred in plenty of movies. This winter of 2027, Roberts will make her Broadway return — and again, with Paul Rudd. The play is Bess Wohl's excellent 'Small Mouth Words,' and will also star Sarah Paulson, Martin Freeman, Greta Lee, and Isaac Powell. 'Small Mouth Words' is directed by Joe Mantello, who is also directing 'Downstate' right now on Broadway. And the producer is none other than Scott Rudin, who looms around Broadway cancelled but making his way back after his horrendous treatment of everyone got him sent away in 2020. He nonetheless returned last season with the Tony winning production of 'Death of a Salesman.' I hope someone makes a documentary about this production. It would be so much fun. 'Small Mouth Words' previously played off Broadway in 2015. Since then, Wohl had a big success with 'Liberation,' so this is a nice homecoming for her and the play. Opening night is March 18th. Rudin will charge two arms and three legs for tickets, and the run is sure to be short, or the cast will likely change.
