ATHENS, Ga. (FOX Carolina) - The Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced that an Upstate man has been charged in a catfishing scheme that involved victims in multiple states.
Police said that Caleb Mills of Taylors was charged with identity fraud after investigators determined he was using fake online identities to defraud victims. He allegedly used photos from women's social media accounts to create identities, such as Hailey Morello, to establish relationships with victims.
All are encouraged to use caution when developing online relationships. Anyone who believes they may be a victim of this investigation is asked to contact Sgt. Franco at nathaniel.franco@accgov.com.
