PITTSBURGH — Ahead of their regular season opener at home against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers aren't dealing with any major ailments.
'Yeah, we're healthy,' Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said during his Monday press conference. 'I don't really expect anyone having a hard time getting ready.'
Some of the Steelers' biggest stars — DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey, Michael Pittman Jr. — nursed injuries during training camp and the preseason. The team will be able to focus on another large challenge.
'The biggest challenge for Week 1 is clearly playing within yourself,' McCarthy said. 'Especially for new staff, new players, we've spent a tremendous amount of time and energy of detailing how we wanna play — schematically, most importantly fundamentally. And I think the biggest challenge in Week 1 is sticking to your fundamentals.'
As for Metcalf and Pittman, McCarthy and the Steelers will get to see what their 1-2 combo at receiver looks like for the first time in game action. Metcalf led the team in receiving yards and touchdown grabs last season while lacking a true No. 2 wideout. By acquiring Pittman from the Indianapolis Colts in a trade over the offseason, Pittsburgh strengthened a room that also includes rookie second-round pick Germie Bernard and Roman Wilson.
