DAVV Approves 100% Tuition Fee Waiver for Former Agniveers

DAVV EC Meeting TNN Indore : Former Agniveers will be able to pursue higher education at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya without paying tuition fees, following a decision taken at the university's 649th Executive Council meeting on Monday. The council approved a 100% tuition fee waiver for Agniveers who complete their service in any of the three armed forces and subsequently seek admission to any DAVV course. The decision is expected to make it easier for former Agniveers to return to academics after completing their service and pursue further education without the financial burden of tuition fees. The waiver will apply to admission to any course offered by the university. The council also took up the issue of mobile phones in examination halls, an area that has often resulted in Unfair Means (UFM) cases involving students. It approved the formation of a committee headed by the Controller of Examinations to examine such cases and recommend appropriate and practical decisions. The move is expected to allow individual cases involving mobile phones to be examined more carefully instead of being dealt with through a uniform approach. Another student welfare decision involved financial assistance available to students in cases of disability and accidents. The council approved a proposal to increase the assistance provided through the Disabled and Student Accident Committee. It also approved a proposal concerning insurance policies through which students could receive compensation in case of an accident. In a gesture linked to the decision, the Executive Council members donated their honorarium for Monday's meeting to the student disability and accident committee. The university will also examine how insurance-related assistance can be incorporated into the existing student support mechanism. The council further decided to constitute a committee on a proposal to make the DAVV campus drug-free. The committee will examine measures that can be adopted to strengthen efforts towards a drug-free campus. On the infrastructure front, the council approved Interactive Flat Panels for smart classrooms at the Institute of Engineering and Technology, renovation of the IMS auditorium, air-conditioning improvements at Lokmata Devi Ahilya Sabhagrah, expansion of the IIPS building and construction of a new boys' hostel at the IET campus. It also approved naming a hall in the Mechanical Engineering Department at IET after former vice-chancellor Prof S M Das Gupta. The facility has been developed with contributions from IET alumni. The council also approved around Rs 1.5 crore in assistance from Pitalia Manav Seva Trust for construction, furniture and equipment for the School of Performing Arts. The meeting also marked the completion of the three-year tenure of five Governor-nominated members. Members present at the meeting, including Dr A K Dwivedi, Dr Vaishali Waiker, Monika Gaud and Prof Rubina Choudhary, were felicitated and given a farewell for their contribution to the university.
