Abdellatif Jouahri remains among the world's highest-rated central bank governors. However, Global Finance gives him an A- rating in 2026, after two consecutive years with an A.
The governor of Bank Al-Maghrib is featured in the 2026 edition of the 'Central Banker Report Cards,' published this Tuesday, September 8, by Global Finance. This year, the American magazine distinguishes 25 governors with its three highest ratings: A+, A and A-.
Abdellatif Jouahri earns an A-. He shares this rating with, among others, the governors of the central banks of Switzerland, Kuwait, Poland, the Czech Republic, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates. He is the only head of a North African central bank to appear in this leading group.

The distinction remains high, but marks a decline. In the 2025 ranking, Jouahri had received an A, as he did in 2024.
Two years with an A before the move to A-
Global Finance has compiled this ranking every year since 1994. Governors are assessed in particular on their management of inflation, economic growth, currency stability, interest-rate management and political independence.
The highest rating is A+. In 2026, only Christian Kettel Thomsen in Denmark and Julio Velarde Flores in Peru receive it. Eight governors earn an A, including those of South Africa, India, Singapore and Chile.
Jouahri therefore remains among the 25 monetary officials who received one of the three highest ratings worldwide, but leaves the smaller group of governors rated A.

Global Finance is due to publish detailed assessments of all central banks in its October edition. The decline from A to A- thus ends two consecutive years during which the governor of Bank Al-Maghrib had retained the same rating.
