Alabama WR Praises Keelon Russell's Skillset Ahead of Week Two Matchup

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- Alabama wide receiver Derek Meadows spoke with the media Tuesday morning following Alabama's 38-point win over ECU on Saturday. Meadows spoke about the receivers' performance during scramble drills and Crimson Tide QB Keelon Russell's Playmaking ability, and He was asked what it's like playing with Russell and his playmaking. "It's amazing; he's one of a kind," Meadows said on Tuesday. "You haven't seen nothing yet; I'm excited to see him keep growing inch-by-inch has the season goes on." Meadows also brought in his first career catch on Saturday with a 31-yard grab from Russell in the first quarter. Meadows finished the game with three catches for 44 yards in the Tide's first game of the 2026 season. Meadows saw playing time in 12 games last season, but did not catch a pass during his freshman campaign. He departed Alabama's road victory over Missouri after a scary hit. For the 2026 season, Meadows was listed as the second-string WR behind Ryan Coleman-Williams. Meadows played 20 offensive snaps, according to Kyle Henderson of Bama Football on YouTube. Meadows played his high school ball at Bishop Gorman, where in his senior season he tallied 24 catches for 598 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 24.9 yard per catch. Meadows is in his sophomore season with Alabama and looks to have a bigger impact for the Crimson Tide this season.
