ightsavers, NEF and PIRS join hands for Integrated School Health Programme

Sightsavers, the National Education Foundation (NEF), and the Pakistan Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences (PIRS) have launched a five-year partnership to implement a School Health Integrated Programme for children in NEF-managed non-formal schools. This initiative aims to tackle health- and disability-related barriers that affect participation and learning. Wajiha Qamar, Minister of State for Federal Education, highlighted the importance of ensuring children are healthy and supported in their education. Under the programme, over 7,000 children will be screened for vision, hearing, and physical health conditions. Those identified with issues will receive necessary support, including free spectacles and assistive devices. The collaboration will also include teacher training and awareness sessions to promote inclusion and gender parity. Syeda Munazza Gillani from Sightsavers emphasized the importance of equal learning opportunities for all children, while NEF's Tahira M. Sharif noted it would enhance support for underserved communities. PIRS will handle screenings and community implementation to ensure timely referrals for further assistance.
