Three govt employees held in separate bribery cases

Patna : Three govt employees were arrested by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau on Tuesday in separate bribery cases in Jehanabad, Sheikhpura and Patna. The officials were allegedly caught accepting bribes ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 for official work. In Jehanabad, vigilance officials arrested Aman Kumar, a junior engineer with MNREGA at Sadar block, while accepting Rs 20,000 at a dhaba near Ambedkar Chowk. The action followed a complaint by Ashok Kumar, who alleged Aman had demanded 3% of the cost of three MNREGA schemes, amounting to over Rs 6 lakh, for verification of their measurement books. The bureau verified the allegation before registering a case and laying the trap. In a separate incident in Sheikhpura, the bureau arrested Kunal Kumar, a lower division clerk at the district transport office, while accepting Rs 15,000 from the senior clerk's room. Complainant Raju Prasad alleged Kunal had demanded the bribe for obtaining a Bihar registration number for his agricultural tractor bearing registration number UP 30AC 4378. The complaint was verified before the trap was laid. In Patna, vigilance officials arrested Upendra Sah, a police sub-inspector posted at the JP Ganga Path Traffic Police Station (Gandhi Maidan), while accepting Rs 10,000 from the station's register room at Digha. Complainant Jameel Ansari of Kaimur alleged Sah demanded the bribe for releasing his vehicle, which was in police custody. All three were taken into custody and will be produced before the respective Special Vigilance Courts after interrogation. Further investigation was underway.
