Ukraine fires 1,100 drones in overnight attack: Russia

Ukrainian forces reportedly launched more than 1,000 drones at Russia overnight, Russian officials said on Sunday, in what Moscow's mayor described as the largest drone attack on the capital. Russia's Defence Ministry said its forces destroyed 1,100 Ukrainian drones across the country, as well as over Crimea and the Black Sea. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 450 drones had been destroyed while heading toward the capital. Some drones struck the Moscow Oil Refinery and a residential building, he said. The attack came on the third and final day of Russia's parliamentary election, the country's first wartime parliamentary vote. The election is widely expected to reinforce President Vladimir Putin's control, with little organised opposition to his policies. Russia also held voting in four Ukrainian regions that Moscow claims to have annexed but does not fully control, as well as Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014. Ukraine has condemned the voting as illegal. Sobyanin said the attack was an attempt to disrupt the election but added that it had failed to do so.
