Eberechi Eze recalls ‘surreal' day after Arsenal's Champions League heartbreak

Eberechi Eze has described May 31 as a 'surreal' day after Arsenal quickly moved from Champions League disappointment to Premier League celebrations. Speaking to British GQ, Eze recalled how the squad flew home the morning after their defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the final. The players had stayed up late discussing the loss before making the early journey back to London, leaving morale understandably low. But the mood soon changed as they headed directly to the Emirates for the club's Premier League title parade. 'It was one of the maddest days I've experienced,' Eze said. 'As soon as we got to the changing room at the Emirates and started getting ready for the parade, you saw life come back into everyone. 'Not winning the Champions League and losing the way that we did, especially for me personally, it was difficult to juggle those two emotions [of celebrating a win after that loss]. But as time goes on, you're able to appreciate what you're able to do, and what you're able to achieve. On the day [of the parade], what helped me through it was looking at the fans, and looking at the joy we brought to the area.' Arsenal had lost the Champions League final 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Eze among the players who missed from the spot.
