Six months ago Swiss Re released a phenomenal report I have only just read. It led with global story - 92% of global insured losses coming from wildfires, storms and floods. A shocking statistic which I would see again, but this time the magnitude was seismic.92% of Asia's natural catastrophe losses in 2025 were uninsured: $65 billion economic, $5.2 billion insured.Insurance covered 8% of the region's economic losses in 2025, against a ten-year average of 17%. Swiss Re attributes the drop to where the events landed, because the year's largest losses struck low-income markets with almost no penetration. The ratio says that it hit ground that carries nothing. In emerging Asia the insurance resilience index sits at 5%,which means nearly all newly accumulated exposure across the fastest-growing economies on earth sits uninsured.Asia produced 30% of the world's economic catastrophe losses and roughly 5% of its insured losses.
An underwriter prices land before covering it, pricing requires classification, and classification requires someone to have looked. Across most of Asia nobody has looked, because there was never a premium worth the survey.
The land isunpriced.Unpriced meansunclassified.Unclassified meansunobserved.Your supply chain sits on that land.
The inputs behind the shelf in every developed market are grown on hectares that no underwriter has surveyed, no rating agency has scored, and no procurement function has mapped to a coordinate.
The West is buying an AI capex cycle and Asia is the growth engine that services it and feeds it but that engine runs on ground that has never been classified, insured, or observed, while exposure compounds and the safety net holds at 5%.
We are now talking about Disclosure Risk when you find out the shipment does not arrive, and at that point it stops being a procurement problem and becomes a statement to your board, your auditor, and your holders.
I have written the intelligence brief for those who realise the magnitude of this information.
It includes:
What is uninsured,
Why it was never classified,
Which supply chains sit on top of it, and
What an unclassified hectare does to a balance sheet that assumes continuity.
Six crop and country pairs are classified inside it, each with biological state, threshold, and irreversibility marker.
