A New Layer on Top of the First Privacy-Coin ETF The options rollout builds on a product that was already breaking new ground. Grayscale's Zcash ETF began trading on NYSE Arca on August 25, 2026, as the first exchange-traded product in the world to offer spot exposure to the Zcash token ($ZEC). The fund was converted from the Grayscale Zcash Trust, which was originally established as a private placement in October 2017. It launched with $304 million in assets under management, a figure that has since grown past $414 million. The addition of options gives both institutional and retail participants a new set of tools. Traders can now execute call and put contracts against $ZCSH to manage downside risk or gain leveraged exposure to $ZEC price action, without holding the underlying coin directly. What Makes $ZCSH Different From a Standard ETF $ZCSH is not registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940, meaning it is not subject to the same regulations and protections as standard registered ETFs and mutual funds. That structure makes it better suited to sophisticated investors who can handle elevated volatility and, in a worst-case scenario, the potential loss of the entire investment. Zcash itself carries a profile that resonates with certain institutional investors. Launched in 2016, $ZEC pairs Bitcoin-like features, including a 21 million coin supply cap and Proof-of-Work consensus, with optional transaction privacy. The SEC closed its probe into the Zcash Foundation in January 2026 without action, removing what had been the biggest regulatory overhang over the asset. The broader market context adds weight to the options launch. $ZEC touched a multi-year high of $1,249.28 on September 6, its highest level since October 2016, after climbing more than 65% in the week before the ETF listing. With regulated options now available, the infrastructure around $ZEC continues to expand in ways that bring it closer to the treatment major digital assets already receive on Wall Street.
