Jones named head girls basketball coach at Regis

Regis Catholic Schools has named Lionel Jones as the next Regis High School Head Girls Basketball Coach. Jones brings extensive basketball coaching, leadership, and player-development experience to Regis Catholic Schools, with a successful career at both the high school and collegiate levels. Most recently, Jones served as Head Girls Basketball Coach at Holmen High School, where he helped lead the program to its best regular season in more than a decade. Prior to Holmen, Jones spent seven seasons as Head Women's Basketball Coach at Viterbo University, where the V-Hawks produced their best season in 25 years, advanced to two conference Final Fours, and made the first conference championship game appearance in program history. Jones also had successful head-coaching tenures at Durand and Menomonie high schools. At Durand, his teams won five conference championships, three regional championships, and a sectional championship while earning a trip to the WIAA State Tournament. At Menomonie, Jones helped lead the program to its first Big Rivers Conference championship. His basketball experience also includes coaching at UW–Stout, working with the University of Minnesota men's basketball program, and working in player development and camps with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Internationally, Jones led a USA U19 women's team to a bronze medal at the United World Games in Germany. Jones, who resides in the Eau Claire area with his family, has built his coaching career around relationships, accountability, player development, and preparing young women for success beyond basketball. 'I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead the Regis girls basketball program,' Jones said. 'Regis has a tremendous tradition, but what excites me most is the opportunity to work with our student-athletes and families and build something they can be proud of. I believe successful programs are built on relationships, accountability, hard work, and doing things the right way. We want to develop outstanding basketball players, but more importantly, confident young women who understand the importance of faith, service, and leadership. I am excited to get to work and begin building the next chapter of Regis girls basketball.'
