Photos | Winchester, Monroe Central battle in week 3 of football season The time has come again to vote for The Star Press East Central Indiana high school Football Player of the Week, brought to you by IU Health. The reigning Football Player of the Week is Muncie Central wide receiver/defensive back Doiron Montgomery. Montgomery had four receptions for 59 yards and caught Muncie Central's only touchdown in a 24-7 loss to Yorktown. He also made three tackles on defense. Montgomery received 4,160 out of 5,606 votes cast (74.3%). This week's poll brings us nine more nominees who had standout performances during Week 3 of the IHSAA football season. Each Football POTW poll will include 10 nominees — one from each of the area's 10 football-playing schools, whether their team wins or loses, as long as their stats are made available in time. To submit nominees for future polls, please email names and statistics for the week to cbhampton@usatodayco.com by Sunday after each game day. The poll will remain open until Friday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. You may vote as many times as you'd like — just refresh the page after each vote. Please vote using the poll found by scrolling to the bottom of this page — votes submitted via email will not be counted. Here's a quick look at this week's nominees, listed alphabetically by school: Brady Bannister, RB/LB, Blackford: Bannister led the Bruins to their first win of the season, a 47-14 victory over Elwood, by rushing 13 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also had one tackle for loss on defense. Aven Thomas, RB, Delta: Thomas had 203 scrimmage yards — 182 rushing yards plus 21 receiving yards — and scored two touchdowns to lead Delta to its first victory of the season, a 28-14 win over Northeastern. Caleb Sibray, LB, Jay County: Sibray logged seven tackles, including two tackles-for-loss and one sack, and recovered a fumble in the Patriots' 62-0 win over Southern Wells. Caden Dance, WR/DB, Monroe Central: Dance had five catches for 106 receiving yards and scored Monroe Central's lone touchdown in a 32-8 loss to Winchester Community. He also made three tackles and forced a fumble on defense. Mason Ferguson, QB, Muncie Central: Ferguson completed 11-of-12 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns while adding three rushes for 67 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground to lead Muncie Central to a 49-14 win over New Castle. Christian St. John, WR/DB, New Castle: St. John had three receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown and added four tackles defensively in New Castle's 49-14 loss to Muncie Central. Ryan Hyre, WR/DB, Wes-Del: Hyre hauled in three catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns in Wes-Del's 32-7 win over Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian. He also made three tackles and had an interception on defense. Joey Vasquez, RB, Winchester Community: Vasquez ran the ball 24 times for 142 yards and three touchdowns to lead Winchester to a 32-8 win over Monroe Central for its first victory of the season. Cooper Luzadder, WR/DB, Yorktown: Luzadder hauled in six receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown and added five tackles on defense in Yorktown's 42-28 loss to New Palestine.
