Related Labor Day North Carolina NC Highway Patrol speeding DWI booze it or lose it checkpoint (© WRAL) By Keyetta Mangum, WRAL Multiplatform Producer North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers arrested 83 people for impaired driving during a special Labor Day weekend enforcement operation across 10 western North Carolina counties. Troop F conducted the operation from Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 7, with additional troopers working late shifts to increase patrol coverage. Troop F includes Burke, Wilkes, Ashe, Alleghany, Caldwell, Watauga, Iredell, Alexander, Catawba, and Lincoln counties. Troopers conducted saturation patrols and checkpoints throughout the weekend. The North Carolina Forensic Tests for Alcohol Branch also provided 'Booze It & Lose It' buses in three counties to assist troopers with chemical testing. By the end of the operation, troopers had issued 837 speeding citations and 248 restraint violations. In all, the Highway Patrol filed more than 2,700 charges during the four-day enforcement period.
