Moon not sighted, Rabi-ul-Sani to begin on tomorrow

ISLAMABAD - Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad on Saturday announced that the crescent of Rabi-ul-Sani 1448 AH had not been sighted anywhere in Pakistan and the new Islamic month would begin on Monday, September 14. The decision was taken at a meeting held at Badshahi Mosque, Lahore, under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. He said the sky remained cloudy in most parts of the country, while it was clear at some places. However, no report of the moon being sighted was received from anywhere in Pakistan. The committee, therefore, unanimously decided that the first of Rabi-ul-Sani 1448 AH would be on Monday, September 14. The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony also issued a notification confirming the decision. Meetings of the zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees were also held in Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta, where committee members and technical experts took part in the moon-sighting process. Officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan Meteorological Department and SUPARCO assisted the committee.
