Spurs announcer reveals he's back after allegations he cheated on girlfriend with player's sister

San Antonio Spurs announcer Jacob Tobey says he will be back in the booth this year after a scandal this offseason. The San Antonio Spurs have had a relatively quiet offseason, most notably adding Tobias Harris in free agency on the heels of their run to the 2026 NBA Finals, where they lost to the New York Knicks. One controversy occurred this summer when Spurs play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey was accused of cheating on his girlfriend with the sister of Spurs player Lindy Waters III, resulting in his firing from the job. However, Tobey has taken to X, formerly Twitter, to announce that he will actually be returning as the team's announcer. 'I thank the Spurs for allowing me time to step away to sort out issues in my personal life. I understand that I will have to regain trust within the organization and across our community, a community where I will continue to be present with enthusiasm and passion. I believe I have the best job in the world and am thrilled to be able to continue as the team's play-by-play announcer,' he wrote. The post didn't seem to deny the allegations of cheating, although it does confirm that he will indeed be back behind the mic next season. The Spurs have long been known for their no-nonsense attitude to off-court issues, unless they involve the players themselves, so fans weren't exactly shocked when Tobey initially appeared to have been let go by the organization following the scandal. Tobey called a lot of wins for the Spurs last year and will hope to do so again in 2026-27, as San Antonio enters the season viewed by many as the favorites to hoist their first Larry O'Brien Trophy of the Victor Wembanyama era. The Spurs' season is set to kick off on October 20 vs the Oklahoma City Thunder.
