State police: 2 arrested for driving drunk with loaded handguns in Hazel Park

Two drivers who were allegedly intoxicated and in possession of loaded handguns were arrested by Michigan State Police early Sunday morning in Hazel Park. As stated on X by Michigan State Police, at approximately 2:17 a.m. on Sept. 6 a trooper and sergeant stopped a Hyundai on eastbound 8 Mile Road near I-75 for speeding and impeding traffic — and the driver stopped in the right lane, blocking traffic. A Dodge Durango then stopped behind the patrol car, activating the hazard lights, blocking traffic, MSP stated. Approaching the Durango, the sergeant reportedly saw a handgun in the driver's lap with the driver's hands near the firearm, MSP stated. The loaded handgun was secured and the driver detained, MSP stated. In the Hyundai, a loaded handgun was found underneath the driver's seat, MSP stated. Both drivers were determined to be operating while intoxicated, and neither had a CPL, MSP stated. The Oakland Press reached out to MSP for information on the drivers' ages, genders, city of residence and blood-alcohol concentrations at the time of arrest — information typically included in arrest reports. On Tuesday, MSP said that information was unavailable.
