The bodies of 12 tourists who died in an avalanche in the mountains of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) were lowered into an alpine town. This was reported on September 8 in the press service of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations. "With the help of a helicopter, 12 bodies of the dead were evacuated to the Bezengi alpine camp, where they were handed over to the investigative task force of law enforcement agencies," the agency said in a publication on the Maks messenger. It is emphasized that the fate of five more climbers is still unknown. An avalanche descended in the mountains of Kabardino-Balkaria two days ago. One of the tourists who witnessed the tragedy, Igor Yerylkin, told Izvestia that the weather seemed good that day, while climber Dmitry Polyakov recalled that the fallen glacier had long been considered a threat to travelers. At the moment, 12 people are known to have died, which makes the incident the most widespread death in the mountains in the last 25 years. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case in this regard in accordance with Article 239 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Creation of a non-profit organization encroaching on the personality and rights of citizens").
