The lawyer of former Dutch footballer Quincy Promes reported on Monday that his client gave an extensive statement for the first time last summer about his role in a cocaine smuggling case. Lawyer Geert Jan Nobs stated during the appeal session at the Amsterdam court that Promes underwent a full day of questioning last June, during which he spoke about his involvement in the case, as well as the use of encrypted phones. Promes, aged 34, was sentenced in 2024 to six years in prison after being convicted of participating in the trafficking of over 1,350 kilograms of cocaine in 2020. The player denied his involvement in the case and missed all sessions of the preliminary trial. The Court of Appeal has decided to allow questioning of Marilio's cousin regarding new statements made by Promes, scheduled for next November. The substantive trial in the Promes case is set to begin on November 30 and December 2, where he also faces a charge of stabbing a family member in 2020.
