Chad Campbell, Mark Wilson lead Sanford amid weather issues

Chad Campbell and Mark Wilson were tied for the lead when play was shelved for the day at the weather-impacted Sanford International on Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D. The PGA Tour Champions event got off to a bumpy start with a suspension for high winds at Minnehaha Country Club. The suspension lasted nearly 4 1/2 hours before resuming at 5 p.m. local time. Later Friday evening, play was halted due to lightning in the area. Nobody in the field completed the first round, which will resume Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. local time before players continue with the second round. Campbell had completed 16 holes and Wilson played the back nine. They're one stroke in front of Germany's Bernhard Langer (2 under through 11). The only other players under par were Ken Tanigawa (through 15 holes), Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez (15 holes) and defending champion Retief Goosen of South Africa (11 holes), all at 1 under. Campbell, 52, had a busy front nine. After a bogey-birdie-bogey stretch at Nos. 3-5, he strung together three birdies before the turn. He took another step back by bogeying No. 13 but added birdies at Nos. 14 and 16 before the final suspension of play. Like Campbell, Wilson, 51, seeks his first win on the PGA Tour Champions. He began his round on the back nine and holed birdies at Nos. 15, 16 and 18 before the weather interrupted his momentum.
