Aqib Javed Breaks Silence on Reports of PCB Exit

National selector Aqib Javed has rejected reports claiming that he is set to resign or be removed from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), calling the speculation 'fake news.' According to Dawn, Aqib dismissed the reports in a text message on Tuesday night, saying there was no truth to claims about his departure. 'No resignation, it's fake news,' he was quoted as saying. The clarification comes amid reports of major changes being considered within the PCB's cricket administration following Pakistan's recent decline in performances. Several reports have suggested that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is considering changes that could include Aqib's removal from his role as senior selector. Wahab Riaz's position as mentor of the women's team has also reportedly come under discussion, with a possible change expected after the Asian Games in Japan. Aqib, a member of Pakistan's 1992 World Cup-winning squad, has remained closely involved in PCB decision-making over the past two years. He currently serves on the national selection committee as well as director of high performance. He has also faced criticism over repeated changes in the national team's coaching staff and captaincy, particularly following the controversial decisions made during Pakistan's recent Test tour of England. After Pakistan lost the second Test at Lord's, the PCB sent seven players home and replaced head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul. Pakistan went on to lose the series 3-0 and dropped to the bottom of the World Test Championship table. Selection committee member Misbah ul Haq resigned following the series, while Aaqib had previously indicated that he had no plans to step down. Reports have also linked the latest discussions to white-ball coach Mike Hesson's willingness to take charge of the Test side.
