Historic UK island up for sale for £2 million A historical island located off the coast of Plymouth, England, is now available to purchase at over £2m. This will give prospective high net worth individuals an opportunity to buy their own fully fortified island with hundreds years of documented history. Historic island Drakes Island is being marketed through estate agents Carter Jonas with offers exceeding £2m. Drakes Island is a 6.4 acre landmark within Plymouth Sound which contains over 30,000 square feet of historic structures, fortifications, ammunition stores, and an extensive network of underground tunnels. Sir Francis Drake named the island. He sailed from this location during his 1577 voyage around the globe. The area was also fortified to protect Plymouth against possible invasions from Spain and France; the island continued to serve a military purpose throughout the 20th century. New owners may be able to transform the island from a former military base to a major tourist attraction. The previous owners have received planning approval to develop part of the site into a 43 bed hotel. As well as providing a significant revenue stream via guided tours, private events, film shoots, adventure activities and theater productions, the island generated £590,000 in gross income in 2023, according to the information contained in the sales brochure.
