選挙制度に詳しい立命館大学の小松浩特任教授（憲法、公選法）によると、選挙演説に対してプラカードを使うなどしてやじを投げかける行為は、憲法が保障する「表現の自由」として認められるという。聴衆にとっては投票先の判断に役立つ可能性もあるため、やじは「民主主義にとって非常に健全だ」と述べる。
