Cliffhanger Tiki Bar in Trimingham closing this month

Maxine and Phil Reeves opened the Cliffhanger Tiki Bar in Trimingham last June, inspired by those found on Polynesian and other Pacific Island beaches. It was discovered late last year that they did not have the correct planning permission to open the venue . The bar is based in a converted garage (Image: Denise Bradley) Despite an attempt to regularise the venue , which is housed in a converted garage, and locals offering their support, North Norfolk District Council refused to give them permission. The planning officer rejected it for several reasons, including that it brings about "an increase in risk to life" due to the lack of information in relation to coastal erosion risk in the application. The officer added that there was a lack of suitable parking and "unacceptable impacts" on neighbours. They have now announced the Cliffhanger Tiki Bar will close at the end of September. "We have tried to keep it going but for many reasons it has come to the very difficult decision to shut at the end of this month," Mr Reeves said. "We just need to get ourselves in a better financial position and to get our lives back on track." He added: "We shall be having a shutdown party over the weekend of the 26th and 27th of September, the Saturday and Sunday."
