A 20-year-old man has been charged after a woman was allegedly assaulted at an Auckland gym, leaving her seriously injured, The New Zealand Herald has reported. Police said the incident happened at a gym in Mt Wellington on Saturday and was being treated as a family harm matter. The man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. A witness told the Herald they saw the man allegedly jump over a security gate before attacking the woman inside the gym. The witness said the woman was 'not in a good way'. Hato Hone St John said emergency services were called to Simplicity Fitness in Mt Wellington at about 5.45pm. One person was taken to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition. A City Fitness spokesperson confirmed an incident had taken place at one of its Auckland clubs. 'The health and safety of members and our staff is of paramount importance to us, and we are offering our full support to those affected," as quoted by Herald. The spokesperson said the company would not comment further while the police investigation was under way.
