Portland high school evacuated for hazardous materials spill

Benson Polytechnic High School is being evacuated Tuesday morning as Portland Fire & Rescue responds to a hazardous materials spill. Firefighters arrived at the school at about 8:30 a.m., according to Portland Fire & Rescue. Fourteen units have responded, as of 9:15 a.m. On scene, crews found a spill isolated to a single room, according to the fire department. Portland Public Schools did not immediately respond to calls. It is not known at this time what was spilled or whether there were any injuries. This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
