Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have sought substantial security challenge allowances for personnel, along with billions of rupees in additional funding for weapons, modern equipment, transport and development projects. A summary outlining the proposed allowances and financial requirements has been sent to KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. According to the summary, police personnel serving in southern and merged districts should receive a security challenge allowance equivalent to 120 per cent of their basic salary. An allowance of 100 per cent of basic salary has been proposed for personnel in other settled districts, while those serving in the Hazara region have been recommended an allowance of 75 per cent. The summary states that KP Police have been fighting terrorism for the past three decades. Despite their sacrifices, police personnel in the province receive lower salaries than their counterparts in other provinces. The proposed security challenge allowances would result in additional monthly expenditure exceeding Rs5.15 billion. The summary also seeks the release of funds allocated for police procurement in the fiscal year 2026-27 to address shortages of weapons, protective equipment, surveillance systems and transport. More than Rs11.16 billion has been requested for police procurement in settled districts, while over Rs3.35 billion has been sought for the merged districts. In addition, the summary seeks Rs13.87 billion in additional funding for weapons, modern equipment and transport. The proposed procurement includes submachine guns, rifles, 5.56mm firearms, bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets, drones, thermal weapon sights, binoculars, anti-drone guns and modern counter-drone systems. The police force has also sought armoured personnel carriers and pickup vehicles to strengthen mobility and operational readiness. The summary calls for the release of funds for ongoing police development schemes, technical upgrades and infrastructure projects.
