Boeing delivered 51 planes in August, including sharp dip for 787

Boeing delivered 51 airplanes in August, keeping 737 MAX deliveries in line with previous months but recording a sharp drop in deliveries for the 787 Dreamliner. Of the 51 planes, 41 were 737 MAXs, compared with 39 MAX deliveries in July and 42 in June. In August 2025, Boeing delivered 42 MAX planes. Last month, Boeing delivered just four 787 Dreamliners, a significant decrease from the 10 787s delivered in July and 13 delivered in June. In the same month last year, Boeing delivered nine 787s. August marks Boeing's second lowest number of 787 deliveries this year, with the company handing over just three in February. It's not clear what led to the dip in 787 deliveries in August. The number of planes Boeing delivers in a month can serve as a proxy for its production rate in the factory, but it is not a direct comparison. In some cases, nearly finished planes are not delivered to customers as they wait for tasks or customer requirements to be completed. Monthly production and delivery rates do not always align. Timing of deliveries can vary depending on various factors, including customer requirements, a Boeing spokesperson said. Boeing's 51 deliveries last month include one 737 NG delivered to its defense division, as well as two 777 freighters and three 767s. Boeing delivered two 767s to UPS and one to its defense arm. The company's total deliveries in August nearly match the 53 planes it delivered in July but mark a drop from the 64 it delivered in June. Boeing's total deliveries decreased from 57 in August 2025 to 51 last month. From Jan. 1 through the end of August, Boeing has delivered 418 airplanes, its highest delivery total at this point in the year since 2018, according to the company. Meanwhile, Boeing booked 15 gross orders last month, including two for the 737 MAX and 13 for the 787 Dreamliner, all listed for unidentified customers. Boeing didn't record any cancellations or any net changes to its order book when adjusting for strict accounting principles, so its net orders for August also totaled 15. From January through the end of August, Boeing booked 498 gross orders. Adjusting for cancellations and accounting principles, Boeing booked 444 net orders. The company's commercial backlog went from 6,192 at the end of July to 6,156 at the end of August.
