The UK announced on Tuesday trade sanctions against Israeli settlements, in a bid to protect the integrity of a two-state solution. In the strongest condemnation ever by a UK government, foreign secretary Ed Miliband told MPs that the argument was "not with the people of Israel", but the conduct of their prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration, which he accused of turning a blind eye to "ethnic cleansing". France and Canada have since issued similar sanctions, and are among 11 countries to have made a joint statement pushing the Israeli government to rethink their actions in the West Bank.
