PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – A student enrolled at and attending Bluefield State University has died after an incident at Brush Creek Falls, according to officials from the university.
University officials say the incident happened Saturday, Sept. 5. However, they are not releasing any additional details about what happened or identifying the student at this time.

Bluefield State University confirms the death of a BSU student following an incident at Brush Creek Falls on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Local and state authorities responded to the scene and led search and recovery efforts. University faculty, staff, and students have been notified. The Bluefield State University community is heartbroken by this loss. Our thoughts are with the student's family, friends, classmates, and all those affected during this extraordinarily difficult time. University officials are supporting the family and will continue to respect their privacy and wishes. Out of respect for the family's privacy, the university is not releasing the student's name or additional details at this time. The university is providing support and resources to students, faculty, and staff affected by this loss. BSU officials continue to work with authorities and will share additional information as appropriate and with the family's wishes in mind.
